Periodontitis: diagnosis and therapy.

Bleeding from the gum is the first sign of inflamation. In this case a dental examination is advisable.

If not treated, periodontitis could lead to soft tissues and bone disctruction. This can cause the dental loss.

Smoke, diabetes and other diseases are predisposing factors for periodontitis. 
There are different types of periodontitis.

Diagnosis

A dental examination and xRays are required for a correct dignosis.

An orthopantomogram, intraoral radiographs or  Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) could be asked from the dentist.

DNA analisis can be investigated to find possible biomarkers even though further research is necessary.

​Therapy

A non-surgical approach followed by regenerative periodontal surgery can be used.

Most of time the removal of plaque, calculus and bacterial biofilmare the first step.
